Egyptian Macaroni Bechamel Casserole Recipe ~ Baked Macaroni with Bechamel Sauce INGREDIENTS: 1 pound Penne pasta - cooked and drained Grated Parmesan cheese parsley for garnish MEAT SAUCE: 1 pound ground beef 1 medium diced onion 3-4 cloves minced garlic 1 3/4 cup tomato sauce 1 tbsp. tomato paste 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/8 tsp. nutmeg 1/4 tsp. thyme salt and black pepper to taste handful of fresh parsley In skillet on med heat add oil and minced onion. Cook and stir one minute. Add minced garlic and cook another 30 seconds. Add ground beef, cook, chop and stir for 5 minutes or until no longer pink. Add seasonings and tomato paste. Cook and stir for one minute. Slowly add tomato sauce, bring to simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat, add fresh parsley, stir and set to the side. BECHAMEL SAUCE: 5 tbsp. butter 4 tbsp. flour 4 cups milk 1/8 tsp. nutmeg salt and black pepper 4 oz. cheese - monterey jack grated parmesan cheese 1 egg to temper In skillet on med heat add butter and flour. Cook and stir until butter melted and cook for one minute. Slowly add milk and stir in between batches. Add seasonings, cook and stir until sauce slightly thickens. Remove from heat. Add tempered egg and stir to incorporate. Add cheese and stir until melted. Add 2-3 ladles or 1/3 of the Bechamel sauce to pasta and stir. ASSEMBLY: One ladle of Bechamel sauce on bottom. Half of pasta and gently tamp. Sprinkle grated cheese. All of meat mixture and level out. Sprinkle grated cheese. Rest of past and gently tamp. Pour rest of Bechamel sauce on top and level. Bake 400 degrees Farenheit for 35-40 minutes Enjoy.
